Sigma Phi Epsilon Memorial Scholarship

16 June 2002

Dear Brothers:

I trust that this letter finds you're all doing well and that you are enjoying the start of your summer.

I would first like to introduce myself to some of you who may not know or remember me. I am Dave Gross or some may remember me as Grossie, and I was a member of Indiana Theta's, Alpha Theta pledge class in the winter of the '77 - 78 school year at Tri-State.

Some of you may not have heard, but we lost three of our alumni Brothers over the past year. Greg Bonardi passed away in May of 2001, followed by Jeff Haskins in November and then Noah McLain in April of this year. Some of you may not be familiar with these three, however, Jeff himself stated it best when he made the sign in the main house dinning room which says "Through these halls walk some of the finest men on campus, the Brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon". These three Brothers where indeed some of the finest men on the Tri-State campus and they represented the Brotherhood well after leaving school in their professional and personal lives.

In memory of these Brothers a memorial scholarship in their honor has been initiated at Tri-State. This endowment scholarship is design to honor the memory of our Brothers and benefit our current active Brothers. The scholarship has been called, "The Sigma Phi Epsilon Memorial Scholarship Fund". The recipients of the scholarship are to be active Sig Ep Brothers and this should allow the memory of our friends to live on for some time in our active Brothers. The endowment scholarship agreement will shortly be posted on the Lambda House website (http://lambdahouse.org) for everyone to read. The "NAME" section of the scholarship agreement will be amended to add additional names as appropriate when learning of Brothers passing on.

"The Sigma Phi Epsilon Memorial Scholarship Fund" has been established with the University from initial donations received. Tri-State has assured us that as long as the fund's principal balance continues to grow every year they will allow us to have a balance below the endowment's required balance of $30,000.00 while continuing to award the scholarship each year. In future years the University will allow us to make additional donations to the fund either through special gifts or annual giving.

At this time, I am soliciting donations and requesting that each of you consider donating to the scholarship fund. You are free to give whatever you want or can afford, but I would hope you would consider $50.00 or more. Donations are to be made to Tri-State University so they are tax deductible. I also would request that you ask your companies about matching funds if this is a company policy. Finally, I would request that in the future you consider making donations to this fund rather than to the general scholarship or general fund at Tri-State.

Robbin Wilcox at Tri-State has also informed me that the Lilly Foundation has agreed to match any donations made to the school between now and December 31, 2003 and that a portion of the Lilly donation could be given to our memorial scholarship.

Again, I would hope that you consider giving to Tri-State for our "Sigma Phi Epsilon Memorial Scholarship Fund" first through an initial donation of $50.00 and then in any future annual giving to the University. So when the school calls you this fall for their Phone-a-Thon, please remember to request you're pledged donation go to the "Sigma Phi Epsilon Memorial Scholarship Fund".

As I stated earlier, donations should be made to Tri-State University and are tax deductible. Make your check payable to Tri-State University and in the notes section write in for "The Sigma Phi Epsilon Memorial Scholarship Fund". Donations should be sent to the school at the following address:

Tri-State University
1 University Avenue

I want to thank you all for your help and support! If you need to contact me please feel free write, E-mail or call. Fraternally,

David Gross
